Sharing your testimony
Thank you so much for saying yes to sharing with the Te Kāinga whānau. Your testimony is powerful—it’s your real story of encountering Jesus.
To testify is like being a witness in a court case - with your testimony you are being a witness to the reality, goodness, power and love go God, that can help others in their relationship with him too.
Please Note:
We aren’t asking you to share your whole life story, we want a snapshot. Think of it like an impactful movie trailer that makes people want to go and see that movie. Give us the trailer.
Here’s a simple way to prepare and share it effectively in just seven minutes:
1. Pray First (Before You Prepare or Speak)
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your words. Your story can plant seeds, encourage hearts, and point people to Jesus. We want Jesus to be glorified.
2. Stick to This Simple Structure
A. Before Jesus (2 minutes)
• What was your life like before you met Jesus?
• What were you searching for or struggling with?
• Be honest and relatable—keep it real, not dramatic.
B. Meeting Jesus (2 minutes)
• How did you encounter Jesus?
• Was it a moment, a process, or a turning point?
• Share what clicked for you or what shifted in your heart.
• Did someone else play a role in finding Jesus?
Was someone sharing faith with you or praying for you? Did someone invite you to church? This can be encouraging to others to keep sharing or praying.
C. After Jesus (3 minutes)
• What changed in your life since following Him?
• How has Jesus helped you through something?
• Talk about the peace, purpose, freedom, or joy you’ve found.
• What has helped you on this journey? Such as attending church, serving, connect group
etc? Sharing these practical steps can help point others to things that could positively impact their journey.
3. Keep It Clear and Personal
• You’re not preaching—you’re sharing your story.
• Avoid too much detail or “Christian jargon.” Keep it accessible.
• Aim to connect, not impress.
4. Practice and Time Yourself
• Run through it out loud at least once.
• Make sure it fits in 7 minutes, max.
• It’s okay to use notes or bullet points—don’t aim for perfect, just real.
• Let us know if you need any help. We are happy to talk it through.
5. End with Hope
• Maybe end with a bible verse that has helped you.
Remember:
Your story matters. Someone needs to hear it.
Just be yourself—God will do the rest.
